Objectives:
• Students will be able to understand how the forces of nationalism developed in the Middle East, how the Holocaust affected world opinion regarding the need for a Jewish state, and the significance and effects of the location and establishment of Israel on world affairs.
• Students will be able to Discuss the important trends in the regions today and whether they appear to serve the cause of individual freedom and democracy.
• Students understand how the forces of nationalism developed in the Middle East and how the Holocaust affected world opinion regarding the need for a Jewish state; and students discuss whether recent trends in the region serve the cause of individual freedom and democracy.
• Students compare the present with the past, evaluating the consequences of past events and decisions and determining the lessons that were learned.
Rationale:
The politically challenging situation in the Middle East (particularly in the Jerusalem area) effects all aspects of governmental decision making for many Middle Eastern COunties as well as non Middle Eastern Countries
Evidence:
The ability to list and explain the various historical events (from various perspectives) will demonstrate a basic understanding of the issues surrounding this geographical area for the hundreds/thousands of year
