SHIPWRECKED- Day 1

shipwreck9.jpg

Story: you are part of a boating expedition, and encounter a bad storm that breaks your navigation and communication system and throws you off course. You land on an island that has no inhabitants (assume this is the case). All indications are that the island is large enough and has enough natural resources to sustain life for quite some time. There are 100  passengers on the boat. You have been selected to figure out a few areas of governance.  There will be other competing ideas, and a decision will need to be made.
For example -decision making, what is the best way to make decisions in a group of 100 people?

Objective: Given the scenario of a group of people (aprox 100) being shipwrecked on an island, students will be able to identify the various components/challenges of developing a system to govern the group.

Rationale: Students basic understanding of the foundations of group survival will help shape their understanding of what it takes to develop the foundation of "government"

Evidence: Each student should be able to list the various areas where challenges will occur and how they would solve or address those issues.

Each student will must answer and submit their "solution" for each challenge to Google Classroom before viewing and solving the next challenge.
Once you have finished the challenges, you will be partnered with a group of students (which I select) to compare answers and decide on a final answer for each question.
Example - student (A) answers the questions in Challenge #1, and submit to Google Classroom. Once all in we will discuss as a class the various answers.
Step 2 will be to answer the question(s) in Challenge #2, and submit those. again we will discuss.
Lastly challenge #3, same process.
Once the forms have been submitted I will show you a short video, and based on the information from the challenges and from the video, you will answer the video question, and submit your response.
Each student will submit 4 Docs (challenge, 1, 2, 3, and the video question.
